The SCSU Standing Committees are the heart of the organization as they include SCSU Directors, and UTSC students. Students sit on various standing committees to offer constructive input and vote on issue that affects students at large. The committees provide direction and oversight to their respective executive (one of seven officers) and ensure that they are performing their tasks (acts of supervision). Similar to other corporations, Standing Committees generate ideas, create policy, and serve as a forum of discussion.
The mandate of the standing committees is to give students the opportunity to engage in discussions before they are brought to the Board of Directors for final approval. Students can take part of the standing committees either as full-time (Co-opted) members or one-time members. All University of Toronto Scarborough students are highly encouraged to attend the SCSU Committee meetings to provide suggestions on various aspects of university life that they would like to have the Vice Presidents tackle. Your questions, ideas, and concerns with regards to each portfolio can be addressed during the Committee meetings.
Both one-time and co-opted memberships are done through an appointment process at the committee meeting. So, if there are three students interested in sitting on a committee and there are two vacant spots, each of the three must explain why they would be a benefit to the Standing Committee. The committee then votes for the appropriate people.
If you have any questions in regards to the Standing Committees please contact the Vice Chair of Board of Directors.
