Director Biographies

 

Ashley Acoba – Humanities

Hey my name is Ashley Acoba and I am one of the directors for the Humanities Department. I am currently in my second year pursuing a double major in French and Neuroscience. For my first year, I was a first year representative for IMANI and I attended Students Equity Standing Committees, and for this year I am a secretary for IMANI and I had an opportunity to be Chair of Students and Equity’s Standing Committee. This year I would like to assure that our BoD is a strong team that will perform each of our positions to the fullest. I would like to improve the connection between the Union and the students at UTSC, and I would like to assure that each of the standing committees are promoted, motivating the students at UTSC to get more involved!

 

Rannie Xu – Humanities

My name is Rannie Xu and I am your incoming 2012-2013 Humanities Director. I am currently in my third year of study in  psychology, biology and cooperative philosophy program. I am enthusiastic about my new role on the SCSU board and look forward to representing the Humanities Department and all students alike. In the past, I have volunteered for the Scarborough Hospital and have  been involved with numerous clubs on campus serving the roles of VP External and VP Human Resources. In the upcoming year, I intend to act as the liaison between the students at Scarborough Campus and the administrative team effectively bridging the gap between the question and the solution. Furthermore, I will be working alongside 2 full-time professors and a team of SCSU directors and executives to help improve the quality of student life on campus. I will also be taking on the role of President for Right to Play- a non-for-profit organization advocating the importance of teamwork and leadership through sports in developing nations. Sheen Pardinas – Biology

Hi! My name is Sheen Pardinas and I am the current director of the biological sciences. I am finishing up my second year of studies in this University and moving on to my third year as a life sciences student. I am currently studying courses related to the programs of biology major, a minor in psychology and religion. As the incoming director of biological sciences I plan to incorporate my hard working skills, persistence in getting jobs done, and consistence to keep the flow of the student union on top of all their individual tasks and goals. As the biological science director, the tasks that lay ahead is not easy challenge, through my experience with five years of customer service at my other occupation, I plan to put my best and my all to serve for the student body with constant communication with students and other fellow members of the union. Within this term, I would like to see a campus full of students that are involved with events outside of the lecture hall, a campus where students of all disciplines have better access to the resources that this campus provides and to work on those that need improvement, and a place that is a second home for students. With energy, passion, and commitment, the union will work together to achieve their complex of goals and actions to make this campus a second home for all students.

 

Pat Simeon – Social Science

Patrick is a third year student currently pursuing a double major in Sociology and Psychology. He has been an active supporter of student life ever since his first year. He has also been involved with the UTSC community by volunteering for events, and many other ways. He states his confidence in being able to provide the students with an easygoing, approachable, fun person to talk to for information regarding Social Science, campus life, and many other things. One of his main goals is to further overall relations between the SCSU and the student body, and to progress the current fight for lower tuition fees.

 

Hassan Mohamud – Humanities

I’m entering my second year at UTSC, completing a specialist joint program in Journalism and minoring in Political Science. I’m very excited and humbled by my new position as a Humanities Director, wishing to only be a voice for the Humanities students of the UTSC and make it a top priority to help out in any way I can. My passion for getting involved on campus stems largely from my philosophy that nothing can be established with anybody without a good conversation, making it essential for me to get to know the students of this campus as well as their opinions and concerns on how to make UTSC move forward to a brighter future.

 

Taha Iftikhar – Psychology

Taha Iftikhar is entering his third year as a double major in Public Policy and Psychology. As Psychology director he is prepared to take on the broad range of duties the board deals with and has been involved with SCSU in the past as deputy returning officer (DRO). Taha has been involved with other departments and groups on campus as well, having worked for IITS helpdesk as well as the department of student life (DSL) in marketing and web design. He is currently also a project manager for SIFE UTSC and outside of school he has also previously worked for CIBC. Mouad Benaicha – Management

Mouad Benaicha is a entering his 3rd year at UTSC in the management program.  As the Management Director for the 2012 – 2013 SCSU Board of Directors, he plans to advocate for your needs by becoming the key bridge between management students and their Union.  He seeks to leverage his experiences and knowledge to work with the SCSU in creating and achieving measurable goals. His passion for transparency, accountability and activism has been demonstrated through past involvements in Stand-Up Committee of Finance and Services (SCOFS) and Policy and By-Law Review Committee. He has functioned in full-time professional role in Companies such as an active day Trader at TitleTrading (Winspure) Floor. He plans to primarily increase pre-management counseling and make sure that the students of this department are provided with the benefits they deserve for their tuition.

 

Charmaine Ramirez – Social Science

 

Charmaine is a second year student working towards a double-major in International Development Studies and Political Science. She is currently part of the Executive Team for the International Development Conference 2013 as the Delegates Coordinator and also an active member of the International Development Studies Students’ Association. This year is Charmaine’s first year getting involved with the Scarborough Campus Students’ Union. She has a passion for student equity and believes that post-secondary education should be enjoyable and worthwhile for everyone. She strongly believes that interaction with members and involvement in the community is one of the most important ways to maximize one’s university experience. This year, Charmaine hopes to widen opportunities of involvement especially for social science students at UTSC.

 

Miracle Ozzoude – Psychology

 

Miracle Ozzoude is currently in his Second year with a specialist in Neuroscience and minor in Film studies. Miracle has been involved in campus since his first year, through different volunteer and work placement opportunities. He is currently an executive member at Psychology and Neuroscience departmental association (PNDA).  As the present director of Psychology, Miracle hopes to provide a stronger student – departmental network between SCSU and department of Psychology.

 

Anastacia Jiang – First Year Director
Anastacia has just entered her first year at UTSC into the social sciences program hoping to do a double major in history and sociology. Her goal as a student first entering University was to be involved with the student union and aimed to become connected with the school community. To achieve her goals, she is now passionately a part of the Street Team, Interhouse Volleyball, various committees, and her proudest achievement of being First Year Director. She will continue to be engaged and involved with the community and throughout her years, Anastacia will strive to make change and improvements for an even better experience at UTSC.

 

Shivarni Singh – Physical and Environmental Science

 

Shivarni Singh is currently in her second year, majoring in Biochemistry and Mental Health, with a minor in Political Science. She is hoping to pursue a career in psychiatry or pharmacy. During her first year at UTSC, she was a volunteer with the Frontier College program, aiding children with literacy and after-school homework. This year, she has high hopes working with the SCSU as a physical and environmental sciences director, getting the voices of science students heard.
