What is it?

The SCSU Health & Dental Plan was designed to provide full-time undergraduate students at UTSC with extended coverage for medical and dental services, including but not limited to expenses not covered by your basic provincial health coverage such as prescription drugs, health practitioners, medical equipment and more.UTSC undergraduate students, who are enrolled in a minimum of 1.5 full course equivalents (FCEs) in either the Fall or Winter session and have been assessed their sessional SCSU fees, are automatically enrolled in the SCSU Health & Dental Plan.

To determine whether you have been assessed sessional SCSU society fees as part of your overall compulsory non-academic fees, follow these steps:

  • Check your Financial Accounts on ROSI
  • Locate all fees paid for this academic year’s Fall and Winter Sessions
  • Locate the fees labeled “SCSU Accidental & Prescription Drug” and “SCSU Dental Plan”

Can I Opt out of it ?

All eligible full-time undergraduate UTSC students can opt out of the SCSU Health and/or Dental Plan. Students who wish to opt out of the Health Plan must provide proof of alternative health coverage in order to receive a refund of their fees. Returning students who correctly opted out during the previous policy year are not obligated to submit this proof unless their coverage has changed during the last twelve (12) months. Please note that OHIP/UHIP is not considered extended health coverage, but rather mandatory health coverage.

For more information regarding claim forms, Plan coverage, proof of coverage, eligibility restrictions, and Change-of-Coverage dates, please visit studentcare.net/works or call the SCSU Member Services Centre at 1-866-369-8797. We have also created some FAQ’s for the Plan at our FAQ Section.

Coverage?

In order to provide UTSC students with more comprehensive coverage studentcare, in collaboration with the SCSU and other student organizations, has set up health care networks throughout Canada. Students enrolled in the Plan are covered for the insured portion of the SCSU Plan regardless of the practitioner they choose. However, by visiting a member of the Studentcare Provider Networks, students will receive additional benefits above what their student Plan covers. For more information regarding Network reductions, or to find a practitioner near you, please visit studentcare.net/works or pick up a practitioner list at the SCSU office.
