DSAs are student-led organizations with a specific academic focus. Every academic department at UTSC has a representing academic society that unites and enriches student life and allows them to participate in accomplishing a set of academic objectives. The DSAs primary objective is to provide useful services to advocate for student interests including but not limited to accessibility and equitability of the academic culture at UTSC.

DSA Services

The SCSU is in strong support of Departmental Students’ Associations who work diligently to engage our shared membership. We want ensure DSAs are supported in doing the amazing work they do to build community on campus.

    • Have your DSA ID for the year ready

    • Book rooms online through the Booking Request form

    • No more than 10 hours of rooms per week.

  • Use same club profile as room booking system

    Tabling with Food

    Food needs to be from a University-approved list of vendors who are known to have the required health & safety certifications Home-made food is not permitted for sale at SCSU tables Cannot sell or give away food that is offered by any vendors inside the student centre.

  • Post 20 regular size (8 ½” x 11”) or 10 large size (11” x 17”) posters FREE. Bring copies of your poster to SCSU office. Postings go up within 2-3 business days. Maximum is within 24 hours. For detailed guidelines refer to “SCSU Postering Policy”

  • Each DSA has 100 printing credits per semester – When printing, 1 credit is used for B/W sheets, and 5 credits are used for Colored sheets.

  • AV equipment can be booked alongside room bookings. Portable TV displays can be booked for use in other locations inside the Student Centre.

  • Stage Space

    Rex’s Den Lounge Equipped with AV Stage, Karaoke, performances, ceremonies.

    Lab

    Group meetings, casual/ formal lunches & dinners

    1265 Bistro provides catering services with halal & vegetarian options - $50 minimum

Departmental Students’ Association (DSA) funding is provided to DSAs that have been recognized by the SCSU, so long as their application meets the requirements outlined in the DSA Funding Policy. Once the DSA Funding Committee has reviewed all DSA funding applications for the round, DSAs will be contacted by the VP Academics and University Affairs regarding the Committee’s decision.

  • For April, 1st 2023 to August, 31st 2023 events: September 30th, 2023

  • For September 1st, 2023 and October 31st, 2023 events: November 30th, 2022

  • For November 1st, 2023 and December 31st, 2023 events: January 30th, 2024

  • For January 1st, 2024 and February 29th, 2024 events: March 30th, 2024

  • For March 1st, 2023 and March 31st, 2023 events:
    April 15, 2024

Please ensure you are only submitting applications for the period of time indicated for each deadline.

For events conducted after March 2024, the current VP Academics will try to approve the remaining reimbursements however it is not guaranteed. There is a possibility that the next VP Academics and University Affairs will review reimbursement applications for the month of April 2024 and it could take up to 6 months for funding to be released.

If your budget is over $500, you will have to schedule a meeting with the Vice-President Academics and prepare a budget presentation.
